NCR - Selfish self service Visual

NCR - Selfish self service Concepts

Four concepts were created on rhino-

1. Joy stick – gloves can be worn, easy to use
2. 4 Button – gloves can be worn, hard to understand
3. 3 Button – gloves can be worn, easy to use, small screen because large buttons
4. Touch screen – gloves could not be worn, large screen

The joy stick was the design that was best suited for the map/pass so i took that further and made a mock up.

The interface for the device will have various different services from position on the map, weather forecast and area covered.

NCR - Selfish self service research

Thinking of an all in one device, i decided to look into GPS. An all in on GPS device with a lift pass incorporated into it. I looked at GPS and screen technology, which will work outside in strong sunlight. A Transflictive screen is a screen which has a reflective module built into it, this module reflects the sunlight off the LCD screen, allowing the user to reed off of the screen easier. I also looked at Mp3 player rubber casings and arm straps, which i thought would be good to incorporate into the design of the device.

NCR - Selfish self service ideas

Looking into snowboarding there is a lot to it. There is a lot of gear and accessories that are needed on the mountain, from the snowboard to goggles. First of all i needed to find something that is used every time on the slopes, something that annoys me every time and something if improved would be a great success.
The main two areas that i find most irritating are the map of the mountain and the lift pass. If these two could be put together into one item it would make the day on the slopes easier.

NCR - Inspiration Board

For our day down in Dundee, we were asked to bring along an A3 board with our inspiration on it. On my board I decided to use music, family and snowboarding. Also in the background there is an outline of Scotland.

Touch-points - a narrative process

Above is a narrative process showing the touch points in hiring a car using a new innovative company called Street-car. Street-car are based in London and they are a self service company, all that needs done is a quick registration, then you can hire a car/van hourly as and when you want to. There’s no office where the car is picked up from, the cars all have allocated parking spaces in and around London. All that’s done is pre-booking online, then using your Street-car card which is posted after registration, open the car, enter your unique pin into the car and the key is released.

The main difference in the two services is the human interaction. Would you be happy picking up a car and not checking it over for damage before using the car? Street-car is an innovative idea which will work well with a London lifestyle, but would it work somewhere less populated?

NCR - Mini Project

What’s the best way to hire a car? If you were to walk into a Car Hire Garage, would they have something available there and then, probably not? Pre-booking is the only way to guaranty a car whether it’s booking online or by phone. Traditional companies such as Focus Vehicle Rental give a friendly service, where all your questions are answered there and then by a member of staff. On the other hand, new innovative company Street Car, have targeted London with their new hour by hour car hire scheme. All you need to do is register on-line, you then receive a card which is used to open the car. The cars are scattered across the city, and each have an allocated parking space.

Is Street Car the way forward? In a city like London you can see how it may be very successful, but would it work in other smaller cities like Aberdeen? I don’t think so.

Chrysler’s Concept Designs

Working with a car hire company over the summer, cars are everywhere.

Students in the U.S.A. spend their summers working in teams creating concepts which they will present to executives and design teams. The teams were to create vehicles that were iconic, exciting, and desirable, while being economically minded, as well.

A mid sized vehicle was the outcome. There are a few different company's bringing out mid sized 4x4. BMW have just released the X6 and Land Rover have the LRX concept. All three have a very futuristic style. Still cant beat the Land Rover!
